Stephanie’s Comments
This well-written, comprehensive book delves into the world of prehistoric peoples, acknowledging the role of women in the development and advancement of human culture. It is a refreshing change from the male-only perspective that is so persistent in anthropological and historical texts and from hyper-feminist texts that seek to even out the unbalance of male-dominated perspectives. It posits that women most likely hunted, invented agriculture, and created spoken language, and that manufacturing nets, baskets and clothing were essential to survival and evolution of the human race.
